Twenty One Gun Podcast

May 19, 2019

Dan Maillard is a former Marine who joined the service straight out of High School. He served as Marine One Crew Chief on the VH60N at HMX-1. For all those who don't know - that's the president's helicopter and the crew chief is responsible to keep it flying. He then transitioned from the Marine Corps to the Secret Service Uniform Division as a Police Office, worked with the FBI on Counterterrorism. Dan comes on to the show today to talk about Irreverent Warriors, an organization whose mission is to bring veterans together using humor and camaraderie to improve mental health and prevent veteran suicide. They organize "Silkies Hikes" where veterans wear their trademark training "short-shorts" while carrying 22-kilogram packs and hiking for 22 kilometers. It's a tremendously successful organization and I will be participating on June 15th's Silkies Hike in Fayetteville, NC.
